You are Allowed

-inspired by Hannah's post

You are allowed to be afraid. You are allowed to wear loose + comfy shirts even if they are not figure-flattering, because sometimes you want to be loose and hidden not emphasized and attention-seizing. You are allowed to cut your hair short because you're restless and ready for a change. You are allowed to wear makeup or to go bare-faced, because there's nothing wrong with that either, and really, it means you're confident + comfortable with your face as it is. You are allowed to hunger for meaning and beauty and purpose. You are allowed to worry about the future and whether you will succeed. You are allowed to then forget about those thoughts and believe in the improbable yet possible fact that you will not in fact fail, that everything really does happen for a reason, and God doesn't make mistakes in steering your life.

You are allowed to want to be different from your parents because you're you, your own person with a different set of dreams, hopes + goals. You are allowed to yearn for the place that you will call home. Because our childhood homes can be different from our future ones - and sometimes we can sense our other home, even if we haven't found it yet. You are allowed to say 'i love you' even if there's no reply. You are allowed to love and believe that it is Love, not just a crush, because the poet who said Love knows no age had it right. You are allowed to not let anyone tell you otherwise because if they do, they haven't experienced Love.

You are allowed to imagine your future children and all the giggles, baby kisses, and even time-outs. You are allowed to wish and hope and run away to Neverland in your dreams to visit Peter Pan. You are allowed to treasure the wind and its gentle, wanderlust-inspiring brush. You are allowed to think you have a good idea of where your life is heading and then, terrified, realize you really don't. You are allowed feel more than is humanly possible. You are allowed to laugh the loudest laugh because laughing means you're alive. You are allowed to cry tears salty and bitter and stinging. You are allowed to write letters to your future self or your future love. You are allowed to want to leave home and travel far.

You are allowed to feel strange and restless in your own skin and search for the release of your truest self. You are allowed to find the person who makes you smile with your soul and to hang on to them. You are allowed to run away for an hour and escape to trees + sky with only your thoughts. You are allowed to make art. You are allowed to live a messy, raw life. You are allowed to love yourself cracks, flaws, and all. You are allowed to believe someone else will too.
